Alien: Isolation
The Alien universe is known firsthand. She distinguished herself with cult films, high-quality games, as well as multiple crossovers with other popular characters of the time. As for games, either Alien or Xenomorph has had a lot of their own games, as well as references or references in other games based on popular culture or a theme close to the Alien genre. Alien: Isolation is not a new product in this universe, but it is definitely a breath of fresh air for all fans of the series.
True to our roots in Alien: Isolation
Space, as in other games in the series, is represented by a dangerous place full of secrets and horrors. Amanda Ripley, the daughter of the protagonist of the first film, is sent to the remote space station Sevastopol in order to get a black box from the Nostromo. Despite the simple set-up, the player will expect many hours of gameplay in which he will have to escape from an alien at a station that has fallen into disrepair.
Unique atmosphere
Any game about a xenomorph is, first of all, a well-composed atmosphere. And the developers here coped 100%. The extreme fanaticism of the creators about the Universe gave rise to VHS effects, screen noise and other "delights". The groans of the casing of an abandoned station, the steps emitted by the main character, the grinding sound coming from the ventilation ... The creators did their best to make the player feel the fullness of what is happening. It is worth noting that the station itself does not seem like an empty decoration. Papers are scattered here and there, and unfinished coffee can be seen near the computers. The developers approached the creation of the station with all responsibility and love, so that the players do not feel fake or bored for a second.
Hunter and Prey in Alien: Isolation
The game itself provides different enemies. Here, the player meets ordinary residents of the station, who, due to the collapse that happened, began to fight with each other, having lost their last mind due to fear. Robots will also become an obstacle, they perceive the player as a troublemaker. And if with the first problems do not arise at all, then with the second the situation is different, since synthetics do not give up so easily. But even this all does not compare with the most important "cherry on the cake" - xenomorph. In Alien: Isolation, he does not appear as a scripted model or a boss. Here he is the hunter, and the hero is his victim. The alien will hide in the ventilation, listen to your actions, movements, and act in accordance with them. The Xenomorph does not take weapons and his behavior is completely unpredictable. It is these details that make "Alien: Isolation" worthy of attention and praise.
Survival and Opportunity
Still, "Alien: Isolation" is not so much a horror, the purpose of which is to scare everyone and everything as the plot progresses. Here the player will interact with the world around him:
- Adaptability. Gamers need to create weapons, objects, look for access and monitor the movement sensor in order to stay alive. All this forces us to look for new ways and solutions in the current situation.
- Survival. Any survival game focuses on creating items and calculating your actions a few steps ahead. Alien: Isolation is no exception, every available item must be properly used and spent.
- The path of war. At some point, the player from the role of the victim will necessarily become a hunter. For a long time of passage, you will have to remember the strengths and weaknesses of the opponents in order to finally give a worthy rebuff and complete the assigned tasks.
- Interacting with the world. Opponents - humans and robots - make enough noise. This can play into your hands if you do it next to the xenomorph hunting the player. The drone will attract his attention, and the main enemy himself will help the hero to remove obstacles on the way.
Pros and Cons of Alien: Isolation
As in any game, there are some drawbacks here. First of all, a lengthy gameplay. The developers' desire to make an excerpt in the style of old films is very commendable, but here such a solution plays both a plus and a minus. Some game design solutions may seem outdated, which may also scare off some gamers.
Well, and most importantly, there is no autosave. On the one hand, this moment can be assessed as a positive one, because frequent deaths and re-passing can be perceived as a challenge, and the desire to survive at any cost gives a sharp edge to the gaming sensations. But on the other hand, this aspect can be considered a big disadvantage, since repeating the same actions can be simply tiring.
What is unusual about the Alien?
"Alien: Isolation" is definitely a wonderful product within the Alien Universe. If we compare the xenomorph as an enemy in this and other games in the series, the Alien from "Alien: Isolation" is a whole head taller. Perhaps he even surpasses many opponents from games of this genre. Unusual design solutions, and most importantly - the atmosphere and unpredictability of the enemy make the game a must-see for all fans of the horror genre or the Alien Universe.
