Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel takes place between the events of the first two games in the series. The original Vault has been opened, has definitely not pleased its robbers, and there are rumors of another Vault on Elpis, Pandora's moon. Elpis is a deserted, rocky and low-gravity place. But Jack, a programmer working for Hyperion, the evil corporation from Borderlands 2, is hiring a team of hunters to travel to the moon and find the Vault.
The story in the pre-sequel focuses on Handsome Jack, the Borderlands 2 antagonist, who's not really that handsome yet. So far, he works at the Hyperion Helios station, only trying to make a name for himself. If you've played Borderlands 2 and are wondering how Jack became such an insane psychopath, this game answers that question. To avoid spoilers, let's just say that Jack is not the person we see at the beginning of the pre-sequel by the end of the game. Events will change it.
Characters in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!
The hunters in the pre-sequel are much better written characters than their counterparts in previous games. 2K Australia has mentioned that they want to make the characters more interactive and sociable, and they have achieved both. The characters finally began to engage in dialogue, accepting a quest or receiving a call, instead of silently agreeing and going on their way.
Additional dialogue is a very nice touch, because now you have an idea of \ u200b \ u200bthe character that you play as. In past games, the protagonists have always been silent, and in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, you'll know what motivates your hero, and this has a very positive effect on the experience of the game. It will also serve as a great motivation to complete the game on the difficulty of True Vault Hunter, which opens after the usual passage - it's interesting to find out what drives other characters.
Add a storyteller in the person of Tina to that, and you have every incentive to spend tons of time playing this game. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel retells the original story to people who haven’t heard it yet with hilarious cutscenes from characters like Tina and Mr. Torrg. You just can't miss it.
The protagonists are four characters we already know from other parts of Borderlands:
- Athena is a gladiator, familiar to us from one of the Borderlands add-ons. Her ability is Kinetic Aspis. Athena is a melee combatant who relies on her kinetic shield.
- Wilhelm is one of the characters in Borderlands 2 who has not yet become a cyborg. His abilities are Wolf and Saint. Wilhelm is good with heavy firearms and uses drones.
- Niche - Pretty Jack's girlfriend from the second game. Her ability is Duel. Niche is strong at shooting and has sharpened reflexes.
- A piece of iron - Hyperion's robot. Its ability is VaultHunter.exe. Zhelezyaka is the only hero who doesn't need oxygen.
Remember to breathe in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!
Since the gravity on Elpis is too weak, the oxygen level in the atmosphere of the moon is very low. Replenishing his supplies will be a new challenge for players. The O2 Kit will help you with this, giving you some pretty nice bonuses. Some sets boost your attacks with some elemental damage, while others you can also heal by collecting oxygen canisters.
Keeping track of oxygen levels becomes a game within the game. But there are enough sources to replenish it in the game, you rarely have to run far if you run out of O2. Locations are dotted with small geysers emitting oxygen, mini-stations with their own oxygen generators, where you can also open the adjacent part of the map. In addition, O2 canisters drop quite generously from defeated monsters.
Oxygen also powers one of the funniest mechanics in the game: the rocket pack. While jumping, you can release some gas to fly further, higher, or even change direction in the middle of flight. And with no fall damage at all in Borderlands, this opens up a whole world of possibilities to explore, and 2K Australia wisely chose to reward that instinct. Find lore tapes on handheld devices, crates and weapon caches in tight corners with this new locomotion.
New weapons
The pre-sequel did nothing with the absurd amount of guns that the Borderlands series usually provides access to. Instead, two new types of weapons were added to the game: cryo and laser.
Cryo Cannons freeze enemies, allowing you to smash them to pieces with a well-timed blow. In some situations, they also allow you to slow down crowds of enemies. Laser weapons come in two flavors, one similar to Star Wars blasters that shoot bursts, and the other a Star Trek-style beam weapon. Both are fun to use, and of course they offer a whole range of different elemental damage.
