The task is simple - players hunt monsters called "hippos". Despite the quite peaceful name, these creatures, similar to a cross between a bear, an owl and a tyrannosaurus, devour everything in their path. They began to destroy cities after the collapse of the world familiar to people, so the work of the players is quite noble. Although, if you look at it, the name "hippos" came from "Behemoth" - a monster, so it is still present in the name.

Simple Dauntless Plot

An incomprehensible cataclysm split the world into many islands that float in the sky, but at the same time added monstrous monsters. The player immediately finds himself in the city of Ramsgate, where hunters for mysterious and harmful creatures gather. Then the actions begin directly.

The game is divided into 2 parts:

• Getting a quest to kill a monster, improving equipment.
• Hunting directly, you can rush to the animals alone or gather a company of up to 4 people.

What and how to fight?

In fact, this game can be called a kind of poacher simulator, only the animals here are far from white and fluffy. About 20 minutes are allocated for the hunt, so there is an opportunity to look around and collect alchemical components that will be useful for crafting. When the hunt is over, the players return to Ramsgate again, and everything starts over again. In fact, in the process, gamers improve equipment due to successful hunting, which guarantees additional effects in battle. For example, it increases damage, gives immunity to stun, and so on.

As for the combat skills of hunters, they boil down to strikes and evasion from attacks, the developers have done without parrying, blocking and stabs in the back. More emphasis was placed on weapons, so it just affects the battle, changing combo attacks and active abilities of the characters.

The type of damage depends on the class:

• chopping - suitable for cutting off the limbs of monsters;
• stabbing - inflicts severe wounds;
• stunning - incapacitates the beast, but not for long.

Types of weapons in the game "Dauntless"

The choice of weapon should be approached carefully, since each has its own advantages and disadvantages. The player immediately receives a two-handed sword, which is considered universal, the type of damage he has is slashing. By the way, successful hits of this sword accumulate a charge, which can be spent on powerful combos. But there is also a minus. A player with such a weapon is highly dependent on the team; it is risky to fight alone. For example, the hunter released a charge, the monster dashingly dodged, and the battle practically ends there. For a hunter, of course.

If you have a choice, you should pay attention to:

• Blades. Considered the most dynamic weapon, they cut weakly but quickly, give the player great mobility. And somersaults with a blade can be replaced with a teleport, but if you press "Q", then you will quickly approach the enemy or dodge the attack.
• Hammers. Those who appreciate the dynamics should not take them, the swing is slow, and the agile monsters very dashingly dodge blows. But if you really hit it, the result will be comforting. By the way, you can write good combinations in the air. The hammer also has a built-in shotgun.
• Two-handed ax. Works like a sword, but only lasts for 1 or 2 powerful hits. Recommended for experienced hunters.
• Pikes. It is believed that this type of weapon has absorbed all the best, they attack quickly, maintain combo attacks in a jump, strike from afar and pierce efficiently. It also has super-duper charge mechanics, the peak energy can be directed separately, like a death ray. Gamers jokingly call them the perfect weapon for both teams and solo players.
• Twin pistols. It's boring to play with them, because the only worries are to dodge in time and shoot at the limbs of the monsters. By the way, their damage is chopping.

Weapons can be improved, but only in the city, for this there are passive effects or elemental damage. There are 5 of them to choose from. Electricity and cold restrict the movement of "hippos", which is useful in a team game. Fire, shadow and light are good for fighting elemental monsters.

What are hippos?

Why they need to be destroyed - according to the plot, no one explains, but it is clear that this needs to be done. Enemy body parts help hunters improve their equipment. With each new hunt, the strength of the monsters increases, so towards the end of the game there is a reason to move only in a group.

Half of the creatures are elemental versions, they all differ in battle tactics. Some are fast, others are slow, there are weak or armored ones, some keep their distance, others rush into the attack. Things to consider before a fight:

• Each monster has 5 types of attacks, there can be more or less if damage is done.
• When the animal dies, it is able to turn on the berserk mode and not weakly crush the hunter, so you can never relax.
• Equipment should be considered with additional damage to the monster.

Should you play Dauntless?

In its genre, this game has not brought anything new, but it can give pleasure. Especially if you have an evening or two with friends. This kind of entertainment will appeal to fans of tactics, because before a fight you need to think carefully about what to fight, how, when and with whom. The action is comfortable, fast, the monsters are original, the graphics are cartoonish, but quite stylish. Dauntless has a shortage of content, players also note problems with optimization at high settings. But overall, the players have a positive impression.
