Final Fantasy VII Remake
Final Fantasy VII Remake is an action RPG from Japanese developers Square Enix. The project was announced in 2015 and was released only in 2020 and exclusively for Play Station 4. This game is a remake of Final Fantasy VII 1997 release. However, the project repeats only part of its progenitor. Other segments of the game will be released later, in new titles.
Visual
The graphics in Final Fantasy VII Remake are amazing. The city is worked out to the smallest detail: dents on signs, cracks in brickwork, frosty patterns on glass and many other interesting little things appear in front of the player in all details. Midgar can be explored for hours, immersed in its dark yet enchanting atmosphere. I would like to express my special admiration for the light - it is very realistic and organic, perfectly emphasizes the depth and detail of the picture.
The characters are no less impressive. The canons of the original have been preserved, but the picture has been significantly improved. You can examine every detail of the equipment, evaluate their appearance and realistic facial expressions.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Story
The plot of Final Fantasy VII Remake tells us about a dystopian world. The surroundings of the universe are created according to the canons of science fiction with separate fantasy elements. The general atmosphere is gloomy, even decadent.
At the head of the story is a group of eco-terrorists and mercenary Cloud Stifer. Their main goal is to defeat the Shinra Corporation, which is sucking life itself out of the planet. In the remake, this story completely repeats the original in its essence, but significantly expands the narrative. New dialogues and additional scenes appear to help you get to know the characters and canons of the world better.
Key events of the game take place in the city of Midgar. It was built entirely by Shinra Corporation, and the center was the office of this structure. The city has several levels that separate the privileged from the poor.
The main problem of the city is the reactors that power it. Due to their activities, all living things around Midgar completely died out. If in the original game characters could leave the city, then in the remake you can only act within it.
The main character, Cloud Styfer, is a military man, a member of an elite group. Initially, he is motivated only by profit, and he has little interest in the ideas of environmentalists. But in the process of immersion in the questions of the universe, he changes his point of view and gets down to business with zeal and desire to help people and the city.
Gameplay
In Final Fantasy VII Remake, the developers tried to overcome the "hallway disease" and create a game that would not cause a sense of linearity. They did it by half - on the one hand, there were many tasks and zones of passage, where you have to smash your head. There are riddles, puzzles, reaction tests and many other interesting moments. On the other hand, the order of the quests is still quickly guessed, it is difficult to call the world a free world.
The rest of the gameplay is not much different from the original. The main character has his huge sword and the goal is to break through the crowds of enemies, with which he successfully copes. The dialogue part of the game is very simple and does not torment the player with difficult choices or deep psychology.
Chips and highlights
Final Fantasy VII Remake has many strengths. Fans have been waiting for this reissue for five years for good reason, especially considering the interesting features of the project:
- Shinra is really evil. They not only wanted to spit on the environment, but also absolutely do not pay attention to the people who live in the city they have created. The population is manipulated with the help of psychology and the latest technology. The player should definitely not seek support from the people.
- The combat system has been reworked. Instead of “timed” battles, a full-fledged real-time combat system is now used. Because of this, battles have become faster, more interesting and deadlier. You have to invent new tactics and dodge more often so you don't have to replay the mission.
- There are only four playable characters, despite the fact that the main character in the plot is Cloud. Besides him, you can play as Tifu, Barrett and Iris. True, it will still be possible to explore the world only for Cloud. The rest of the heroes come into play during combat missions and you can switch to them at any time.
- Realistic animations bring a special percentage of complexity to the game. Since the action does not happen instantly, timing takes a lot of getting used to. In literally 1-2 seconds, you can die simply because the treatment did not work on time due to the animation.
- You will not be able to complete the game with one style. The plot will force the player to use all the characters' abilities to survive.
Final Fantasy VII Remake certainly deserves attention. Even if you haven't played any of the projects in the series, the remake is still worth taking a look at. It is interesting, moderately complex, with an understandable but captivating plot. Also, convenient and variable gameplay and competent visualization of the project cannot but rejoice.
