Legends of Runeterra
Online card games are gaining more and more popularity; they bear little resemblance to the simple multimovers that were once played on the tables. New heroes, variations, plots appear, so the development of game universes often leads to the fact that developers are trying to present part of the overall story through games in a different format. This is exactly what happened with Legends of Runeterra, a collectible card game set in the League of Legends gaming universe.
Old new friends in Legends of Runeterra
All the heroes known from League of Legends remained, assuming the appearance of rare cards. Ordinary cards are presented as characters that always remain on the sidelines. Unlike classic CCGs, here the hero cards have almost a key ability, around which the player's tactics and strategy will be built. The main task in the game is classic - during the whole game to destroy the enemy's Nexus, depriving him of all 20 health points. Legends of Runeterra stood out for its different mechanics from the CCG standards. So, legendary heroes have a pumping of characteristics throughout the entire round, and some cards receive bonuses if certain conditions are met. For example, the Depth ability is activated when there are 15 or fewer cards left in the player's deck. Each mechanic in the game has been given attention, and you can familiarize yourself with them before playing directly with live opponents.
Particular attention is paid to the factions, between which certain types of cards are divided. Each gives its own advantages in the game. So we decided to do so in order to describe in more detail the world of "League of Legends", the life stories of the heroes and their formation.
Convenient pumping
Any CCG can greatly scare off a new player due to a strong entry threshold or long-term accumulation of its collection. In some cases, the cards may lose their relevance by the time the player is able to get it. "Legends of Runeterra" provides a convenient system for pumping regions through regular games. Thus, the player, distributing his experience and resources, can receive boosters, new cards, in-game currency, and much faster at the start to take the "cardboard boxes" necessary for a full-fledged game. When duplicates or unnecessary cards fall out, they can always be exchanged for "shards" - the currency that will allow you to create the cards you need at the moment.
Variety in Legends of Runeterra
The game provides as many as 5 modes for players:
- Ranked games. As usual in TCGs, there is a rank system. A distinctive advantage is the mechanics of gaining experience, loyal for beginners. For example, before the platinum rank, penalties for losses will be insignificant, and for a victory and for a series of victories, they will give much more points. All this contributes to easy entry into the game and less serious hitting when defeated.
- Expedition. A mode in which a deck is created from completely random cards, the only difference is that they all belong to a certain faction. This means that it will not work to assemble a motley deck. The main task is to correctly make combinations of the offered faction cards.
- Game with AI. Battles against the bot will help you hone your skills, test various combos, new decks or see legendary heroes in action to decide which cards are best to combine them.
- A duel. Educational duels, in which the player will learn the details of the game mechanics, the properties of the "boxes" and the features of the factions.
- Play with friends. Duel format where you can compete with each other, helping to complete daily tasks or just for fun.
Colorful battle
One of the main components of any CCI is the visual component. "Legends of Runeterra" did its job well, showcasing colorful graphics, chic visual style and catchy card animations. Thanks to this approach, everything that happens “on the table” not only pleases the eye, but also makes the gameplay more lively and even exciting. All that remains is to rejoice along with the replicas of the heroes, when, in a difficult situation, they managed to turn the tide of the battle in their favor, accompanied by a beautiful picture and epic music.
In addition to graphics, there are also "outfit" elements that will make your game more "personalized". Visual changes to the playing field, emoji, defender, card backs. These changes highlight the player's personality, enjoy collecting, and are simply pleasing to the eye.
Summary
Legends of Runeterra is light, fun and full of interesting CCG mechanics. It has not as strong a barrier to entry as many other games of this genre, very kind to new players, giving everything you need for an easy start. Plus - more fully reveals the world of the already beloved by many "League of Legends".
