Life Is Strange

Teenage life is a weird thing. In your body, some incomprehensible changes are taking place and the hormonal background is raging, you already see all the imperfection of the world around you, and your attempts to somehow change it come across misunderstanding on the part of adults. And if you also know how to manage time, life becomes even stranger.

Simple Life Lessons

So, the main character of Life is Strange is an 18-year-old girl named Max Caulfield. She seems to be doing well. She moved away from her parents, moved to the beautiful coastal town of Arcadia Bay and entered the prestigious Blackwell Academy. And everything would be fine, but something terrible is hidden behind the screen of serene beauty.

Missing Rachel Amber notices are posted throughout Arcadia Bay. She disappeared six months before the events of history, and the locals have already lost all hope of finding her: 6 months have passed, and not a single clue has been found.

At Blackwell Academy, Max meets his old friend Chloe Price. Several years ago, communication between girls came to naught. And in the life of Chloe Price herself, tragic events took place, because of which she turned into an informal woman who denies most social norms and rules. Chloe was also close friends with the same Rachel Amber who disappeared six months ago.

As Max wanders through Arcadia Bay and the altered timeline, the game reveals simple truths of life. She talks about the situation of adolescents in modern society (18-year-old teenagers, yes), about relationships between people, about complex moral compasses and other problems that sooner or later affect each of us. She activates reflection, after which she remains in bed and until three o'clock in the morning thinking, did you do the right thing that August evening in 2008?

Life is Strange Episodes

"Life is Strange" is presented as an episodic narrative. The game is divided into five episodes. When it came out in 2015, each new episode had to wait 1-2 months. Now it's already the 20th outside the window, so you can sit down and completely complete the game. It is worth considering that the storyline campaign takes about 9 hours, so a full weekend should be set aside for a detailed study of Life is Strange. To go to work or school on Monday with a heavy head full of dark thoughts.

So, the first season consists of five episodes:

  • Chrysalis. Max arrives in Arcadia Bay, and the freshman simulator begins - you need to get to know everyone, talk and find out what's like. The heroine has the ability to control time.
  • Out of order. Max and his friend Chloe are trying to figure out how time rewind generally works and where the limits of her abilities are. And another friend suddenly fell into serious depression.
  • Chaos Theory. The heroines begin to investigate the disappearance of Rachel Amber. It turns out that the girl is not what she seems. She had a lot of strange secrets that she was not eager to share with Chloe.
  • Developing Room. Max prevents tragic events in Chloe's life, but, as it turns out, only makes things worse. And he also ends up in a secret bunker, where he learns a lot of new and interesting things about one of his classmates.
  • Sundering. Max learns that a very dangerous criminal is operating in Arcadia Bay. A hurricane is approaching the town, and the girl can save him. Or not. This episode is the main storyline choice for the entire game.

In each episode of Life is Strange, the protagonist will need to make a choice. In most cases, however, such plot ramifications are only minor. Only in the fifth chapter does the heroine make a decision that can change the whole town.

Life is Strange Gameplay

Life Is Strange is more of an interactive movie than a quest or whatever. The main character, controlled by the player, walks along the timeline in different directions, examines the environment, notices all sorts of small details and puts references, references and allusions into the frame.

At the same time, the gameplay is not very meditative. The detective component periodically tightens the screws, you start to worry and worry. True, the separation between the "simulator of school everyday life" and "playing Sherlock Holmes" is quite noticeable: the first 2.5 episodes are very warm and lamp-based, to allow you to get familiar with the town of Arcadia Bay and the skeletons stored in it, and the second ones are already becoming gloomy and frightening.

Life is Strange is a story-driven game. That is, no one will just let you run through the campaign: you need to get acquainted with a huge number of characters, admire the surroundings of Arcadia Bay, again get acquainted with its large number of characters, start to empathize with them, and then hate, and so on in a circle.
