Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 2 is a RPG and first-person shooter, a continuation of the Captain Shepard saga. So the future and all intelligent life across the galaxy is in danger. An advanced race of machines known as the Reapers are about to erase all life. Shepard, an outstanding soldier, has faced this threat once and overcome it, but victory is far from guaranteed. Now the captain will have to fight in the enemy's lair - this mission was nicknamed suicidal from the very beginning. The situation doesn't look promising, but the hero has a plan. And it includes hiring the best and brightest personalities in the galaxy. However, before that, they should somehow be convinced that their lives are worth donating for the common good.
Team in Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 2 is often described as the "dark" second installment of the trilogy. Nowhere is this more relevant than in the personal missions of your team members. Each new recruit has their own quest that can be done before going on a mission. Completing such a task unlocks a new ability and costume, and also makes the character's loyalty to Shepard and the mission concrete. While technically optional, these missions are a very powerful part of the game, and you will lose a lot if you don't complete them. They invariably contain shocking twists, moral dilemmas, and gameplay changes that go beyond simple combat.
One quest consists mainly of spying and pursuing a target, while in the other you will need to seduce a target in a nightclub. Get ready to deal with various problems from broken families to inhuman experiments with the rights of robots and the genetic sterilization of an entire race. These personal missions bring both individual characters and the universe as a whole alive. The heroes' problems are so well spelled out that when a character falls into tears, it feels very truthful. And thankfully, the drama is diluted with a healthy dose of humor so as not to leave too heavy a feeling.
Recruiting new team members and getting to know them better, it becomes more and more difficult to choose only two to complete the mission. Sometimes you need a specific character for the "Start Mission" option to appear in the dialogue. For example, in Grant's personal quest on the krogan homeworld. If he is not on your team, you cannot ask anyone about his situation, which is logical. Combat abilities also need to be considered. If you are fighting geth, you need an engineer who can hack them.
Mass Effect Compatible
Another impossibly nice feature of the game is that if you've played the original Mass Effect, you can import a save file from it. Which means that your Captain Shepard, and any decisions he or she made, will carry over to Mass Effect 2. Along with important parts of the story, like which members of yours survived, dozens of small details are also added to the game.
For example, even third-party quests from the first game have a small follow-up in the form of parts of dialogues or emails that you will receive from people you have helped. This is a great idea, mostly well implemented, although sometimes you may wonder why the seemingly very important decisions in the first game had no visible effect. Anyway, you are missing out on a lot if you didn't beat the first game, so go for it.
The combat system in Mass Effect 2
Compared to the first part, the combat system has been heavily reworked. The cover system is much more flexible and it is easier to move between them. The aiming system has also become more accurate. The crosshair has become smaller, and allows you to aim at enemies at a much greater distance. The battle has undergone significant changes.
In addition to the improvements to the combat system, it should be noted that there are no grenades in Mass Effect 2 - they have been replaced with heavy weapons, for example, a grenade launcher and a laser, which allow you to inflict significant damage on the most dangerous enemies. Weapons can be upgraded just like in the original, however, the system has added depth and opportunity in your battle to save the galaxy. New abilities have appeared that allow you to easily and effectively use biotic forces in battle.
The AI of enemies has also been redesigned - the game now presents a greater challenge, because opponents have become more resistant, and it often seems that you are really fighting for your life. These improvements to combat elements really helped improve the overall game. Despite this, the combat is still not perfect - sometimes team members rush too far ahead, into the very pile of enemies, causing problems. Or they just get stuck in the back and cannot help when you really need it, which, unfortunately, can lead to your death. It’s a frustrating moment, especially when you start to feel like the team is dealing with a good number of enemies.
