World of Warships: Legends
Wargaming have built a solid niche for themselves in the gaming industry. World of Tanks has become the most popular tank action game, and World of Warships dominates the sea. Having previously specialized in PC games, Wargaming decided to bring their title to consoles and they did it quite well.
On the surface, it looks like World of Warships: Legends is just a bare port, but Wargaming has made some clever changes to ensure that console gamers can get the most out of the game. But the basic concept remains the same: as a commander, you choose a ship from a series of classes, join a faction, and try to drive out the enemy's forces. At first, you will come across mostly AI enemies, but as you gain ranks, you will quickly find yourself in battles against real people, and this is where the fun begins.
World of Warships: Legends is not a game of luck
World of Warships: Legends is the first and leading naval combat simulator game. You and your crew work together to get the most out of your ships. All war machines have strengths and weaknesses, so the correct use of the available resources depends only on you and your understanding of the game.
As with any strategy game, each unit has pros and cons, and contrary to popular belief, the largest ship is not necessarily the best choice for every situation. There are several classes of ships in the game: battleships, cruisers, destroyers and aircraft carriers. Each of them, in the wrong hands, can become ballast in battle, rather than a deadly weapon.
There are many nuances in the game, and knowing when to use your ships' abilities will often mean the difference between winning and losing. For example, torpedoes are extremely destructive, but they are slow and can be easily detonated with deck weapons. At first, it's hard to figure it out, it is better to continue the attack if you are beaten, or to retreat and bring help. But when you learn to feel the game, the rewards will be worth it.
Game Store
There are two types of currency in the game: silver and gold doubloons. Silver is quite easily earned from a variety of sources: objects, missions, and game progress. For it, you can buy various improvements and some basic ships for your port. Gold can be purchased with real currency and from limited in-game sources. It can be used to purchase loot boxes and special ships, which are often strong and have small improvements compared to their silver counterparts.
But don't worry, the game is carefully balanced. Buying special ships does not guarantee an easy victory at all. The outcome of the match depends primarily on the experience and skill of the players. You can't buy an indestructible car here for money.
Types of ships in World of Warships: Legends
Each ship class has its own characteristics and style of play. Destroyers are versatile, but not very good at defense. Battleships are powerful attackers, capable of sinking a tiny destroyer in one salvo. Plus, they are large and cumbersome, easy to aim at, but you need to hit multiple times to see any signs of effective damage.
Cruisers are somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. They are good because they are very flexible in their abilities, for example, they have access to smoke screens and anti-aircraft equipment. Cruisers do well at medium range, while battleships do well at long range. Destroyers can fly around the battlefield like annoying insects, "picking" large ships, or be cunning snipers, launching torpedoes from a long distance. Aircraft carriers are almost unable to fire, but they do damage and conduct good reconnaissance with their aircraft.
The ships in the game are modeled after the real ships of World War II that contributed to history, which explains the "Legends" prefix. You will find combat vehicles from many countries, including Japan, Britain, USA, Germany, and so on. Wargaming's attention to detail is surprising. They modeled every aspect of real ships, from how the cannons look to how the ship is assembled. A lot of work has gone into each model, and you can see it.
As in World of Tanks, the game has a technology tree for base ships, which allows you to improve their defense, attack, speed, and so on. Purchased premium ships do not require opening the tree, their abilities have already been pumped to the maximum. The ship can also be strengthened by appointing a commander. It will expand the capabilities of your ship with a growing array of attacks and abilities.
Graphics
Graphically, World of Warships: Legends is a great game for consoles. If you're looking at landscapes instead of fighting, you're missing the point of the game. But if you decide to do it anyway, you will not be disappointed (at least until you are sunk): the sight of your ship rushing across the endless ocean towards the battlefield is simply wonderful.
