Battlefield V
Electronic Arts and developer DICE have a marvelous series of first-person shooters called Battlefield. These games are highly realistic - if not always story-driven, but at least "emotional" or physical: bullets and explosions behave as they should.
Battlefield is capable of portraying war in both fun and unattractive ways. After many hours of race with shootings, explosions, heroism and betrayal, you sit back with satisfaction, sigh and understand - it would be better if this never happened in reality. Yes, at least the scene with the dove in Battlefield 1 shows how well DICE is able to portray war - and even the hardest crackers at that moment tried to cope with the lump that rolled up to the throat and wipe the mean tears from the face. But it lasts only about a minute!
Battlefield V has retained the core strengths of the series. It is still a war game showing the beauty and ugliness, heroism and disgust of fighting. And the critics appreciated it. But Battlefield V players didn't like it.
War has a woman's face
Oh, those scary words "inclusiveness" and "diving"! They can already scare people. But a good deed is being done - a demonstration that everyone is equal. That men are no worse than women (or vice versa); that homosexuals do their jobs as well as heterosexuals; that people with a different skin color are primarily people.
There are women in Battlefield V. And they fight on the front line on a par with men - they break into captured buildings, wield various pistols and machine guns, and also die. Well, that is, as in reality - during the Second World War, it was quite possible to meet women on the battlefield, and not only nurses. Sniper Kovshova Natalya Venediktovna, pilot Rufina Gasheva, partisan Valentina Safronova ...
Well, okay. It's not just women who set Battlefield V apart from the rest of the series. The plot campaign took a step away from the major events of World War II and now focused on much more "local" stories. African campaigns, small European cities, some kind of small farms - this is not the epic character of the Battle of Stalingrad or the landing of the Allies in Normandy, but tiny but very rich plots.
The plots are taken from a textbook on world history:
- The story of the British subversive service "Boat Squad", which recruited everyone who got there, and in this case, they recruited a criminal, a bank robber, promising him an amnesty after completing several combat missions in North Africa;
- A story about a sabotage at a Norwegian heavy water plant. This industrial center was badly needed by Germany, since it is impossible to create nuclear weapons without deuterium. The partisan Solveig must both save her mother and prevent the Third Reich from creating an atomic bomb;
- The story of the Tyrallers - French colonists from the same Africa - who tried to defend the country from the German fascist invaders.
- Realism here, as usual, seems to be there - but the studio decided not to bother with trifles. Well, soldiers are running around with more or less modern weapons, so what? At least there are no automatic rifles with laser sights, and thanks for that.
How to Play Battlefield V
Gameplay Battlefield V is a classic first-person shooter. You take a suitable weapon and go ahead, deal with the Germans or with the allies (depending on the chosen side). However, the game has a large open world and almost complete freedom of action.
If you want to think over tactics - you are always welcome. It is also possible to use transport to travel on the map, only the equipment here is, for some reason, exclusively German. Trying to deal with opponents in stealth mode - there is such an option. Or you can go straight ahead and burn it all with a blue flame.
The game periodically activates new mechanics. For example, in the story campaign there are missions where you need to ski or draw the attention of tyraliers to the place where the enemy is congregated. There are also additional tasks like “Destroy several dozen enemies on the plane.”
Battlefield V Multiplayer
In general, Battlefield V looks like it was designed specifically for multiplayer games. The storyline campaigns are short, but the multiplayer modes are varied.
So, in addition to the standard team fights, Battlefield V has its own "battle royale" ("all against all, and only one must survive"), which is called "Firestorm". True, it is distributed in the form of DLC, and it is far from the scale of a direct competitor (CoD: BO4).
And then there's the Panzersturm map. Huge, with an emphasis on the use of tanks and other military equipment. Almost a step into World of Tanks territory, but short and careful.
