Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
Remember how you took a broom in your childhood and tried to “play” it like a guitar? Oh, those were glorious times ... It's a pity that with the proliferation of robotic vacuum cleaners and other long-handled brushes, they are irrevocably gone. There are no more brooms, all that remains is to get the controller-guitar and play it!
In 2005, Harmonic Music Systems created a new genre. They were able to combine rhythm playing and the exploitation of our shameful pursuit of squeezing an imaginary electric guitar solo into one big project - Guitar Hero. Initially, it worked with a conventional "joystick" for the console. But then the players realized that they wanted to feel like real rockers and started buying guitar controllers.
Initially, Guitar Hero was considered an extremely peculiar game. Say, this is for kids and so-called kidals (adults who retain a childish mood). But then it became incredibly widespread, and even brutal bearded lumberjacks bought themselves a guitar controller to deftly press the multi-colored buttons on it to bring out powerful electrosolos.
And especially for them, a special version of the game was released - Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. It contains 70 classic rock compositions out of the box. So you can feel like a guitarist for Scorpions, Aerosmith or even ZZ Top. And the controllers for it mimicked the look of musical instruments from the cult developer Gibson.
It's good to be a musician!
As the name implies, in the development of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, the creators concentrated on transferring the most popular and legendary compositions. No, of course, some Stairway to Heaven, Song 2, Walk This Way or even Smoke On The Water was not brought here. The scale is not the same as to take the cult compositions that are heard by everyone.
Nevertheless, with simply well-known compositions, everything is in order here. You can simply list the bands whose work is represented in the game - Kiss, Alice Cooper, Rage Against The Machine, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Sex Pistols, Metallica and a few dozen others. Even the parody rockers Tenacious D have been spotted.
Yes, of course, in most cases the music is represented by B-sides or "sixth tracks from the album". But Muse never ceases to be Muse in Knights of Cydonia. It's certainly not Supermassive Black Hole, but it's also a great track.
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Campaign Mode and Storyline
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock has a storyline for the first time in the series! We are talking, of course, about the career mode, which is now supplemented with a story and animated inserts between acts that tell about the formation of the group.
The story begins, as usual, on a tiny concert venue where an aspiring rock band plays for an audience of three and a half. Among the audience there is also a certain Lou, who introduces himself as a producer. He tells the musicians that he was amazed by their work, and therefore offers a large-scale contract with live performances, released albums and a world tour. You can even visit Japan!
Of course, the musicians agree. Thanks to their talent, they turn out to be worldwide popular. But at some point, they have a discord with the producer, they try to break the contract ... but Lou turns out to be the Devil himself. And the contract describes not only the formation of musicians as rock stars, but also the sale of the soul.
Now the musicians need to go down to Hell and there in the music arena to defeat the Devil himself, in order to return not just a cool band, but real rock legends!
By the way, the plot of the game is based on the urban legend about Robert Leroy Johnson, an American black bluesman. He is rumored to have sold his soul to the Devil in his youth in exchange for musical talent and worldwide fame.
As you progress through your career, more and more complex and well-known songs will open up. If in the first act you need to play Social Distortion and Kiss, then in the eighth - Iron Maiden and Metallica. But the most famous compositions are in the fifth act.
By the way, during the passage you have to face two bosses. The first is Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine, and the second is Slash from Guns N 'Roses. And they really play themselves. So it's worth getting ready.
Co-op in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rocks
In co-op mode, the plot changes slightly. The game itself becomes available for two people at the same time. One of them will be the main guitarist and the other will be the bassist. Of course, everyone will need a controller.
The plot of the cooperative mode covers the central part of the narrative - the chapters devoted to the shooting of the first video, the tour of Europe and Japan, as well as the moment of discord between the musicians, followed by a tragic reunion.
