Risk of Rain 2
The multiplayer roguelike Risk of Rain 2 begins in much the same way as the previous installment. The main character's spaceship crashes on a mysterious planet inhabited by all kinds of aggressive flora and fauna. And the character needs to get through the intricate and infested levels of opponents in order to survive. And ideally - also leave this unpleasant place.
The sci-fi setting in Risk of Rain 2 is barely felt. Yes, from time to time the player will find alien bases and use all kinds of high-tech weapons, but in the end the gameplay is so traditional to the roguelike genre that you can forget that the action began with space flights.
The most interesting thing is that Risk of Rain 2 has become completely three-dimensional. The predecessor was a classic 2D game. The sequel was also planned to be made in two dimensions, but the developers faced technical difficulties and therefore transferred the project to full 3D.
On the mystical paths of distant planets
Risk of Rain 2, which follows the canons of the roguelike genre, has almost no plot. There is only a small plot of the story, which serves as just a start for the gameplay. Your character's spaceship roamed the vastness of the universe until it crashed onto an interesting new planet. There he finally broke down, so all that remains is to go to investigate the crash site in search of life, civilization and a way home.
As it turns out, this planet is inhabited by all sorts of dangerous monsters. The local fauna is not only aggressive, but also extremely numerous, so you will have to wield swords and blasters with amazing regularity. You will also have to die quite often.
Risk of Rain 2 is divided into several levels. Each of them, by the way, was created by hand, and you can feel it - the locations are not crammed with monotonous alien trees and space research bases, but differ in a variety of landscapes and environments. Running from the point of entry to the exit, the main character will collect various weapons, artifacts and other material values - in total in Risk of Rain 2 there are more than a hundred different items with different characteristics and purpose.
Boss Battles in Risk of Rain 2
In Risk of Rain 2, as in any self-respecting roguelike, there are full-fledged bosses. They are found at the end of each level.
A teleport appears randomly at locations. This is the exit point. As a rule, he spawns somewhere in the farthest corner of the location, but sometimes a miracle happens, and he spawns approximately in the middle. That is, there is an accident, but it is controlled.
After activating the teleport, monsters from all nearby places begin to flock to him. The task of the player - or players, if we are talking about multiplayer mode - is to hold out until the charging time of this "vehicle". Among the monsters, there are almost mandatory bosses - huge, dangerous and capable of various types of attacks.
However, not only bosses are able to “drink blood” of a player in Risk of Rain 2. The in-game mechanics are such that the power of ordinary monsters increases every five minutes. That is, the longer the player is on the level, the more dangerous his alien opponents become. So you need to go through the location as quickly as possible, find a teleport, activate it and get out of here!
And then bitterly regret what we have done, because for each kill of a monster they give experience points and in-game currency. The first "points" can be used to upgrade the character, increase his basic and secondary characteristics. The in-game currency is good for buying loot boxes that contain valuable items.
Artifacts and equipment in Risk of Rain 2 have synergistic effects. For example, you can combine five copies of a pistol into one "cannon", and it will be much more lethal than these weapons separately.
Multiplayer and co-op in Risk of Rain 2
"Roguelike" is focused on cooperative passage in a company of up to four people. This is evidenced by the variety of classes - there are five of them here: Engineer, Hunter, Commando, Engineer and MUL-T (this is generally a robot). Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. And the cooperative passage allows you to level the cons.
The cooperative works here not only via the Internet, but also via a local network. And even a split screen mode is available.
Multiplayer PvP battles are also here. True, they are held exclusively in special arenas within the framework of the so-called "Prismatic Competitions". This “championship”, among other things, offers a global leaderboard, which further encourages you to look into PvP battles more often.
