Super Mario Bros.
Once upon a time there was a sweet princess Peach who ruled the Mushroom Kingdom. It flourished and did not know grief until the giant fire-breathing turtle Bowser attacked the kingdom. This local dragon not only turned the inhabitants of the Mushroom Kingdom into aggressive and evil, but also kidnapped Princess Peach.
And now a real hero is sent to save the royal person. He has to overcome many obstacles, fight dozens of enemies, defeat an evil turtle and find a cute princess.
Here are just a real hero - not a knight in shining armor, but a simple Italian plumber Mario.
Sorry, Mario, but your princess is in another castle
Super Mario Bros. became a landmark for the Nintendo company. After the release, which took place, for a minute, in 1983, she instantly gained popularity around the world. Simple gameplay, funny setting and incredible addiction made it a cult - and even today, in the era of the latest generation of shaders, ray tracing and cooperative tactical shooters, sometimes you just want to "go back to childhood" and download "Mario".
The gameplay of the game is as simple as a monkey wrench. Italian plumber Mario walks down the level from left to right, dealing with various enemies along the way. He simply crushes big-eyed aggressive mushrooms with a successful jump, makes turtles hide in their shells, and simply tries to avoid predatory plants. You can also deal with the enemy by hitting the platform on which he is located from below. If Mario finds a fire flower, he can spit small fireballs - and this is also a kind of weapon.
Opponents are not very diverse, but quite numerous:
- Mushroom. Just walks from side to side and glares at Mario, killing the plumber in a collision. Easily destroyed by being flattened under the hero's feet or spitting with a fireball;
- Turtle. Also walks through the levels, in some cases it is also able to fly (because ... why not?). If Mario jumps at her or spits a fireball, he will temporarily hide in a shell. With the next attack, you can disperse it - and it will rush around the level, knocking down all living things (including the Italian plumber), until it falls into the gap between the platforms;
- Predatory plant. It gets out of the pipes and actively clicks its green jaws. Completely immune to jumping. Better to wait until the plant is hidden back in its pipe;
- Porcupines. Like carnivorous plants, they are immune to jumping. To combat them, fire spits and blows on the platform from below are suitable. Another option is to fire a turtle shell in them.
Each chapter ends with a boss encounter. It is the huge dragon-like turtle King Koopa, which spits fire and throws large hammers. The boss is invulnerable to Mario's jumping, so you have to use fireballs or try to get to the ax that is behind the enemy.
In addition, there are secret rooms on the levels that can be visited by going down the pipe. There are also additional passages "Warp Zone" through which you can go to the neighboring world.
Super Mario Bros. Advanced
After a successful first passage, a mode of increased difficulty opens, which is called the Second Quest ("The second task"). It makes the gameplay really hardcore:
- Enemy movement speed increases;
- Mushrooms disappear from the levels, and instead of them more dangerous beetles appear;
- Platforms moving up and down are reduced in size, which increases the chance of jumping over them, or, conversely, not jumping;
- Stunned enemies recover faster;
- From underground, pillars of fire begin to beat more often;
- Cannonballs fly through the levels;
- The number of enemies is also increasing.
Another unpleasant feature of Second Quest - the number of checkpoints decreases, while those located in the middle of the level disappear. So if you die, you will have to complete the task from the very beginning.
Super Mario Bros. Multiplayer
In Super Mario Bros. - the game, recall, 1983 - there is a cooperative passage! The second player controls Mario's brother, Luigi, also a plumber, who differs from his relative only in the color of his suit.
Despite the fact that there are two characters, the number of bonuses at levels does not increase. For example, there is only one fungus that gives extra life and increases the growth of the protagonist. So whoever got up first got the slippers (bonuses).
This makes the cooperative passage a little more fun - often there are comic conflicts between players due to the fact that someone wanted to get a bonus (mushroom, flower), but at the same time the owner of the second joystick got a boost.
