World of Warcraft
World of Warcraft is one of the most popular MMORPGs created by Blizzard in 2004. This massively multiplayer online game is a direct sequel to the Warcraft series of PC games developed by the same studio.
So paid or free?
World of Warcraft is a shareware game. To access it, you need to buy an annual or monthly subscription. The project also has large-scale game add-ons (at the beginning of 2020 their number was 7), which are purchased once and connected to the player's account. In 2020, the eighth expansion, Shadowlands, was announced.
There are free World of Warcraft pirate servers, but they do not have the necessary technical support. If you really want to immerse yourself in the world of Warcraft, you better buy a monthly pass, saving yourself from bugs and crashing servers.
World of Warcraft visuals
Graphics are not the greatest strength of World of Warcraft. The developers are trying to gradually improve the quality of the picture, but it is still far from the complete redesign of the project. There is no need to wait for natural textures and animations of leaves, grass and water. The characters are not distinguished by special drawing. The aesthetics of Warcraft are very grotesque, so you won't be able to create a realistic image: it will be either a fantasy armored bra or a giant heavy armor. Good or bad is up to everyone, it's a matter of taste.
The game world is interesting for its deep lore and elaborate history. Warcraft fans can not only run around the map and kill mobs (or other players), but also explore their favorite game universe.
The game does not have any unambiguous color scheme, and this is both a plus and a minus of the project. Because of this, the locations look more diverse. There are bright forests, bustling cities, and dark dungeons with eerily quiet caves. In general, this cult game has a really interesting universe, the mysteries of which can be learned for hours.
World of Warcraft Gameplay
What World of Warcraft can be praised for is its gameplay. Unlike many Korean MMORPGs, this game is filled with interesting quests, tasks, and not overloaded with grind.
The game begins with character creation. The player can start playing for:
- Warrior or Paladin.
- Hunter or Rogue.
- Shaman or Priest.
- Mage or Warlock.
- Druid or Monk.
- Death Knight or Demon Hunter.
You have to play for one of two factions - Horde or Alliance. The choice of your path will also need to be made at the very beginning. The list of available races depends on the choice of the faction. As the Alliance, you can become a Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Dwarf, Draenei, Pandaren, or Worgen. For the Horde in this confrontation are orcs, undead, tauren, trolls, blood elves, goblins and pandaren.
The whole gameplay revolves around the battles of two warring factions. The player must fight against hostile mobs and representatives of the enemy forces in the person of other users. This is done with the help of special attacks that the character learns during pumping.
Players can join groups or complete the game on their own. But it should be noted that the gameplay is designed in such a way that certain parts of the map cannot be mastered alone. For example, trying to defeat a boss on your own is likely to result in death.
Features and unexpected little things
World of Warcraft is a game with a long history. Developers manage to maintain a leading position due to the fact that they listen to the opinions of players and constantly add new features to the game:
- In 2008, the game entered the Guinness Book of Records. It is recognized as the most popular multiplayer role-playing game in the world. It still remains in the TOP, despite its shareware distribution system.
- Warcraft does not have a single map or server. To make all players comfortable to play, users are divided into groups of several thousand players. Each group has its own map. Characters can be transferred between servers at any time.
- Unlike other MMORPGs, this game does not have a PVP and PVE server division. On any map, you can enable or disable the "War Mode", which allows you to fight with the characters of other players.
- Warcraft has a well-developed internal community. Each player can find a clan to their liking. Clans in WoW are not just a group of teammates to defeat bosses. Usually, such societies unite people with common hobbies and outlooks on life, for whom play is just one of the ways to spend time together.
World of Warcraft is an iconic game that definitely deserves a look. If you haven't played an MMORPG before, you should pay attention to WoW Classic. This is the "basic" version of the project, without add-ons and add-ons, straight from 2004. If the gameplay drags on, you can safely switch to vanilla Warcraft and start conquering its vastness.
