NieR Automata

Robots fight instead of people - this is not a new topic. And if they are fighting aliens on the ruins of human civilization? Such a game in the genre of Action / RPG was offered to gamers by the author of Yoko Taro - "NieR Automata", it was presented by the company Square Enix. The original trick is that the Earth was captured by alien machines, which created a kind of cult of "air worshipers".

Plot Features

So, aliens attacked the Earth, who, through a virus, created special robots. They easily took over the planet, pushing humanity to the moon. But, even retreating, people did not surrender, they left their androids, who will fight the invaders. Hundreds of years have passed, and now the ideas about their purpose have changed on both sides, turned into cargo cults, right up to a complete crisis of existence.

Gameplay & Heroes

The player is given the opportunity to play for the robots of humanity, a choice of 2 heroes: a gloomy loli-android 2B and a doll-like 9S. The trick is that robots do not actually die, although they die in battles all the time, consciousness is transferred to a new body every time, with the preservation of experience and improvements. The authors failed to create a pure action, but the impressions are still unusual.

Combinations of weapons open up different movements: a two-handed saber gives one set of attacks, and if you change a saber to brass knuckles, it is completely different. It is recommended to choose according to parameters, and not according to a set of movements. Adjustment of improvements is carried out through RAM 2B: loaded some programs - more damage is done, added others - the hero began to dodge and parry better. And since the interface also takes up space in memory, you can sacrifice a health bar in exchange for combat skills. Experienced players note that it is not worth spending time specifically on pumping, since the level of enemies grows gradually. So it is quite possible to advance on your own skills, but invulnerability from dodging will be required by all means.

Combat Features

When choosing skills, it is better to focus on positioning and mobility, gamers note that they are much more important than framedates and combos. It is easier for the hero to maneuver between bullets, waves and rays, while catching moments when you can hit back. Enemies often reach with ranged attacks, which leaves room for maneuver. So you need to skillfully control the character and calculate the behavior of the enemy.

On the one hand, this simplifies the game, on the other, it makes it predictable and less dynamic. But on the other hand, the developers have gone overboard with the perception and the picture. Even an ordinary concrete plant seems colossal after alternating 2D segments. A two-dimensional village of robots on a tree feels like a toy. It adds to the experience, but adds confusion, which some players are unhappy with.

Where to get hold of weapons?

The game provides a lot of weapons, but you can buy only a part, you have to look for more. In principle, not really zealous, to the finish line really collect half. But if you try hard, then you will be able to pack your robot thoroughly. Experienced players give tips on where to profit.

Short Swords:

  • Faith is stored in a chest in the tower near Flooded City, intended for 9S.
  • Iron Pipe - caught in the sewers, on the way to Amusement Park.
  • Beastbane - Available from the Weapons Dealer in the Resistance Camp.

Big Swords:

  • Phoenix Sword - in the chest on the roof, where the game starts.
  • Type-40 Blade - falls for the Data Analysis Freak 2 quest, for 9S.
  • Type-3 Blade - Available from Devola or Popola.

Spears:

  • Phoenix Lance - lies in the center of the Desert Zone.
  • Breastcurse - in the platform chest in the Forest Zone.
  • Type-3 Lance - on the roof of a destroyed house in Flooded City.

Brass knuckles - for 9S:

  • Demon's Cry - in the Amusement Park basement chest, where I had to fight Beauvoir.
  • Type-40 Fists - in a chest in the Resistance Camp.

Pros and Cons

Most gamers accentuate problematic moments, for example, the brightness setting is issued for the calibration of 2B sensors, and in case of obvious two-dimensionality it starts to feel a little rocking, the player has to switch to a special mode.

Not everyone likes the difficulty levels, on a regular one it is really possible to defeat bosses, and on a higher one, the player does not have time to start a fight, as he is taken out with one blow. And it's not that the enemies are getting stronger, it's just that the developers have increased the damage from them, and this greatly interferes with navigating the battle.

From technical points: the quest trigger does not work, sometimes enemy attacks are poorly balanced. There is still no autosave, and if the player did not manage to get to the progress recording terminal next to the quest, then he can then be revived altogether on the other end of the map. In addition to the imbalance of difficulty levels, bugs in quests are also straining.

But all this does not mean that the game is unsuccessful. There is a good design of the characters and the world, a high-quality fighting game in the spirit of slashers, the plot is well worked out qualitatively. So it will be interesting to have fun in an unusual battle of robots, especially since special skills and vast experience are not required.
